Where does this go?

Where does this go?
I was working around the rear putting a new chain and brakes on when I heard something hit the floor. I think it is part of the rear caliper but not sure. Snap a pic of it's position if possible. Thanks

You are correct. It's the brake pad retainer. Part no 6:
