VTR1000F not starting - HISS problem ?

Howdy folks, Aussie rider here, '03 VTR1000F.

This afternoon when I went to ride home from work, my bike wouldn't start. Turned the key to On, pushed the starter and... nothing. Not even a click.

Dash lights come on, as does headlight, so I don't think it's the battery (I will confess I didn't try push starting it). I noticed flicking the kill switch off and back on that the HISS light flashes. I've never paid attention before I must admit - is that normal ?

I something busted in the HISS system, or might it be something more mundane ?

(I also have to confess to not being particularly mechanically adept. )

Video of what happens

Dodgy starter switch? clean and replace part if necessary.

Could be handy for you to have another local Firestorm owner so you can swap over parts to narrow down what's failed.

sounds like a safety start switch has failed...Neutral switch for starting in neutral with clutch out, clutch switch for starting in gear with the clutch pulled in, or the side stand switch that limits starting in gear with the side stand down.

Check the operation of those things

+1 Yup - just noticed the neutral light appears absent in the vid

So as 98VTRrider suggests check that out, by seeing if it starts with the clutch in

Neutral switch

I mostly agree with a kill switch but put the bike in neutral and check the side stand switch too. If your clutch lever switch had come loose or failed, it wont help pulling in the clutch at all.

Check votage across battery with the $5 multimeter you are on you way to buy.
