Too much oil?

So I got my tank back on after rejetting and removing the PAIR System. Put gas in her and started it up. It was a semi shaky start up, but once it warmed up it seemed to be running extremely well. I went up and down my road a few times just to test out the throttle and the flat spots were gone. So I was going to go for a more spirited ride but when I got the end of the street it started sputtering and backfiring alot. Luckily I was still on my road. So I pushed her back to my house and noticed there was oil residue leaking out of the oil cap. The gasket looks fine and it was on plenty tight. So I Started it back up and went for a ride. 10 miles later it did the same exact thing on the highway. Started sputtering again, and bogged if I gave it any gas. So I pulled over, opened the gas cap and it whooshed like there was alot of pressure building. I sat for a few mins. Started it back up ran fine till I got home. And again, a bit of oil was around the cap. Any thoughts?

My thought is you don't have your tank vent line on. BTDT more than once while working on my VFR tank mod. Takes a few miles for vapor lock, less on a full tank.

The oil thing may just be a co-inky-dink but what specifically did you do to the PAIR system.

Honestly doesn't sound like to much oil was the issue, but how much did you put in?

When you put the tank back on did you get the lines to the petcock on right?

Im pretty sure I got the lines on right. I have the two the come from the carbs on the appropriate side, and then the small, Im assuming, vacuum line one the semi hidden spout on the petcock. Then the 2 that arent connected to the petcock are on also. Which one is the tank vent line? I had the tank painted, so I should probably make sure nothing is clogging that.

Ok I just looked at the lines in the manual. Everything is on right. When you say "tank vent tube" do you mean the breather tube or the drain tube? Im guessing there has to be something sitting in the line.

Yes, it's the smaller of the two lines that connect towards the front. One can easily get that one and the real vacuum line for the petcock confused. The petcock line connects to the vacuum port on the front left side of the rear cylinder.

Yes, make certain painters tape or something else isn't clogging the vent tube.

Also, if the rubber vent line itself is pinched or clogged somewhere between the tank and the end, you'll suffer fuel starvation.

This happen to me on another bike and it was my fault. I tried to remove that line by pulling it out and it got stuck. I gave up, went on to other biz, and promptly forgot about it. Later, I reinstalled everything by the book and the bike ran like crap; bumbling and stumbling. Took me for frickin' ever to remember what I did and figure it out. (head slap emoticon here)

It sounds to me like maybe two things going on. Fuel starvation would be a tank line, but if the oil cap and gasket look good and the oil breather hose is loose or detached oil will drip down to where the oil fill cap is.

Ok Im going to pull the vent line tomorrow. Do you think a blower nozzle on an air compressor would hurt anything if I attached it to the hose? Or blew air from the overflow hole on the tank?

There are two vertical tubes (connections) on the underside of the tank; one large and one small. The smaller of the two is the vent line. The larger is the gas overflow line for refueling.

Blowing the line clear should pose no problems.

Ok. So technically if I get, if there is anything, out of the vent line will the whooshing stop when I open the gas cap?

If you're sucking air when you open your cap, your tank is not venting.

Ok. Blew all the hoses out, and stuck a small screw driver up the vent line on the tank. I shook the tank a little and I could hear it venting out of the tank! Went for 50 mile ride and not a hiccup! Thanks for your guys' help.
