Ticking noise

I restarted my bike for the first time in a while today. It's had a couple of things done since being put away in the fall. The ones that seem significant are a new rear head gasket (missed a dowel the first time so it was compressed twice), ape ccts and depaired. The ticking noise is fairly loud and definitely coming from the rear head. I thought it was an exhaust leak but I loosened and tightened everything and that didn't change it at all. My second guess was cam chain noise but upon inspection with the cams loaded and unloaded there was no significant chain slop. The compression is about 140 and I'm kinda at a loss as to where the noise is coming from.

I have no real idea... just a thought:
Maybe check for anything loose related to the de-PAIRing? Did you flip the reeds or use block-off plates? could a leak there cause the ticking sound?

I flipped the reeds but covering that opening with my finger didn't change the noise at all. although there is suction there that I need to block.

I don't think it's the valves, I just adjusted them when I had the head off and have checked them since but I'll check again.

checked the valves, there all well within spec. I pulled the header off and it does have the crush washer under it, maybe it's too crushed. How loud would an exhaust leak be? I just cant figure out what this noise is, it's fairly loud. If I had to say exactly where it was coming from I would say the back half of the rear head, maybe right hand side but hard to say. I'm not familiar with valve noises on these but if the compression weren't good and the valves well within spec I would assume an exhaust valve. Please any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm royally bulloxed.

Might be a bomb :-) My guess is bad fuel.. try some octane booster.. Usually when you get bad fuel it doesn't burn fight so the valve will make noise.. Try that get some octane booster or water treatment for gas.. might very well be water in your fuel..

Actually not a bad thought, the gas in it did come from a can in the shed that is... well not new. But why only the rear cylinder?

Ranchomice had the same issue except it was the front cylinder. He put the stock CCTs back in and the noise went away.

Well try adjusting the APE first.. If you get the APE to the right tension it shouldn't rattle much at all. (unless the chain is WAY stretched in just one section I guess)

Still no luck. I put in a new exhaust gasket but no change. I did notice quite a bit of moisture in the exhaust chamber in the head though. There were droplets of what seemed like water but I suppose may have been coolant. I suppose once I get my double banjo bolt from china I'll run the fuel through it and replace it with good high test. If that doesn't clear it up I'll have to assume there's a head gasket leak between the cylinder and coolant, but I haven't noticed any bubbles in the coolant or any lack of coolant.

Well the noise didn't go away so I popped the head cover back off and low and behold the exhaust valves were at .026 The huge gap seemed odd since I had just shimmed those valves. When I couldn't get the buckets out I did some research and found out (feel free to laugh and criticize) that the bucket must return from whence they came. Long story short I think I swapped them, they got stuck, got slapped by the cam and possibly mushroomed a little. So now they are really stuck. Any ideas on how to get them out? I've tried magnets and heating and and pliers and wd40, next up is dry ice on the buckets when I can find some.
