Think CCT is going..?

Just wanted to confirm, I've read a LOT here about the CCT's going. My SHawk has 8300 miles on it, '03. It did sit for awhile though, about a year and a half.

When riding for awhile consistent RPM's, then I let off the throttle (leaving it in gear) and hear a rattle from the engine bay, which is consistently week to week getting worse.

This the CCT everyone think?

Thanks!

This would be very low mileage for a cct to go out but anything is possible. The FIRST thing I would try is an oil change. Refill with Rotella (either) no need to go synthetic right away. Burn 500 miles and see if it doesn't improve. Simple thing but has worked for me - valve train noise, sticking or sticky transmissions, funky clutch noises - it's worth a try!

You might try to listen with a stethoscope and see if you can't narrow down the location in the motor where the noise is coming from. Worth a try you can get one at auto tools supplier. Good luck post your findings.

Thanks for the input

Surprisingly, it doesn't make the noise without the transmission in gear. And only on winding down from riding for a bit, never just revving in the garage.

Possibly the transmission I'm thinking, now.

When you pull in the clutch does it stop? Might be typical noisy Honda clutch basket . Seems that all my Hondas do it . VFR, CBX & VTR.

Check the condition of the drive chain. If it is unevenly stretched or binding on a few links, this could be your problem. Possibly a good lube and proper tension could solve this problem (hopefully). Just a thought...

It does seem to stop with the clutch pulled in... I also noticed it is time to replace the drive chain.

Thank you all for sharing your experience! I think my CCT's are happy for now.
