SuperHawk Shift Clunk

SuperHawkers,

When I'm riding my SH and if I come to a light and put the bike in neutral then shift to 1st when the light changes the SH makes a loud clunking noise and the bike jumps a little bit.

Is this a normal quirk with the SuperHawk's clutch? I've read some other posts and I get the impression it is but I want to make sure I'm not having a more serious clutch issue.

That's normal, so long as it isn't trying to actually go and is just a bit of a jump.

Edit: it still might be a good idea to replace the clutch fluid though.

Mine does this as well, I did some research and it seems to be a normal thing.

I had the same. Check your idle speed. I had 1300 rpm and after reducing it to 1100 rpm bike stopped jumping

Actually it's normal for just about all bikes.

It has to do with the way the bike trans uses shift dogs and even with the clutch pulled in, the input shaft is still spinning (like if you put the bike on a rear stand and start it, the rear wheel starts spinning even in neutral)

So when the spinning shaft engages the stationary shaft you get the clunk.
Like the previous poster stated, keep the idle speed in spec and it should minimize the noise and eliminate the jumping.

Hold the clutch in for a couple of seconds before hitting the gearshifter...that might help. But yes, a clunk is normal.
