Cool Stator problems??

Need some confirmation please.

My bike stopped charging so I just assumed it was my regulator since this is a common problem with VTR's.

I did the R1 regulator mod and the bike still wasn't charging so I did what I should have done first......checked the shop manual !!!!

I checked for resistance between the 3 stator wires at the regulator and found the resistances to be within shop manual spec between the 3 stator wires.

Then I checked the resistance between each of the 3 stator wires and battery GROUND and found that all 3 wires were shorted to ground.

My question is......according to the shop manual, the 3 stator wires should NOT be shorted to ground at all. This is an indication that the stator is shot!

Before I go out and buy an expensive new stator, can anybody confirm that my stator is probably cooked?

Thanks

George

Thumper is an unknown quantity at this point
There is a shop in Birmingham, Alabama that does top notch rewinds and dang quick turnaround. If he has a rotor or stator like yours already rewound he just send out the replacement the same day he receives your.

He did both of my CB750F's Stator/Rotor combo in better than new condition. He even included a new wiring harness with the stator.

Talking thanks

Thanks for the posts guys.

That flow chart was awesome, I will archiving that one for ever...

I'll prob try to find someone local to rebuild and see how much that costs. If it's too much then I will go new.

Thanks again guys.

Yep

I got the Stator cover off today. She's burnt and the epoxy melted in one spot. Gonna replace it with one from Motovan. The OEM Honda stator is $390 from the dealer......ouch!
