Starter issues

The other day I went for a ride and stopped for a coffee, when i came out the bike wont start, i'd press the starter and a sound or two would come out and then nothing. All the lights work just nothing happens when i hit the starter. i found some lose battery connections tightened them up and jumped the bike(because i killed the battery figging around) and it worked fine for 3 weeks. Today I hit big pot hole and the same issue is happening. Full lights, kill switch off.... works fine once its been jumped, just nothing at all happens when i hit the starter button, i check all the connections but they seem good. has anyone else experienced this? could it be a lose wire or a short?..

Probably a dead R/R is not charging the battery fully.

I had same problem and almost went crazy trying to resolve it. First look at the starter where the rubber cover is at and make sure that the bolt holding the power wire isnt rusted, mine was and it would short out to the case on the starter at random. Then because of me having to jump it off a few times and the ground issue burnt the R/R which in turn overheated a pin connector and that killed two batteries and another R/R before I figured it out. So first CHECK the connection at the starter. Then check battery for dead cell. Then check R/R for proper voltage output.

thanks I'll give that a try. I took the battery out and placed the multi meter on it, and it has full charge, so i'll search for some sort of ground short.

I've had a similar issue this spring. Suddenly totally dead starter. I started fiddeling with the starter relay and after a while it suddenly started. Hapened to me tree times I think, but never delayed me more than 10 min. Haven't failed me for over a month now.
Can you hear the starter realy? If not start at the ground connection, to the battery to the relay. The problem is somewhere in between there. That is, as long as you have a fresh battery.

I've finally had some time to tinker with it but still can't seem to nail down the issue. Its becoming very frustrating and I'm about to take it in. I called my shop and they have a regulator in stock but urged me to do a through investigation as the part is not returnable. At idle the the battery is receiving 12.6volts, at 2500rmp it goes up to 14.5 and at 5000rmp it drops to 12.9.
The regulator appears to be is good shape with no corroded wires or leaking fluid. Any more suggestions?

At idle and high RPM those sound like low readings to me.. But I could be wrong. Anyone else here know what voltage to expect from the R/R at idle and high RPM?

edit: here this GSXR unit: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ead.php?t=1646 is providing 13.4 - 14.2 across the board.

I just finished up a ride after installing my new regulator. works great, well over 14volts across the rev range. thanks for the help.
