Replacing Steering Head Bearing
Hi, I have a notch in my steering head bearing that I can feel when turning off of center, so I'm ordering up a set of tapered bearings for it. I have the shop manual for the bike but I'm a little unclear on if I have to remove the forks AND the fairing from the bike to do the bearings. Can anyone with experience give me a quick rundown of whats involved before I take it apart? Thanks.

Just leave everything together and loosen the fork clamps on the upper triple. Don't move the lower so you don't have to measure and reposition them. You will have to take off the clip-ons and calipers and it's probably easier if you take the wheel off of course. I didn't take off my fairings when I did my front end conversion. Once you have the forks off look up from the bottom and you'll see a notch in the head, that's where you knock the top bearing out from. Same thing on the bottom, look through the top and you'll see the notch. If you run into a problem let me know.
