just a final note of conclusion it was the other coil. Problem solved and confirmed by springbubba's coil. So now as soon as I get my coil she will be back up and running ... after 3 months of riding season has gone down the tubes.

Thank You!!!!!
Sorry to dig up this old thread, but it just helped me eliminate the "gremlin" that I've been chasing for several months and I felt inclined to offer a sincere "Thank You" to Little_Horse for following up with the solution. I had been through the carbs so many times that I could have them off and back on in under 1/2 an hour. I replaced the fuel valve, filter, blew out the vents, replaced the vent lines, swapped ecm and CDI units, plugs, valve lash, and cam timing all to no avail. It turns out it was the front coil which was causing the stumble at idle, exhaust popping during rev up, low rpm missing or misfire. It acted up only when warm, and it would "drop" one cylinder at idle intermittently. Anyways, it is now back to running "like a Honda" again, which after all I've been through is priceless!

I think I found it now the front coil is reading out of spec on both primary and secondary windings but more so on secondary and alot when the cap is off. Supposed to be 17k ohms to 19 k ohms with cap its ten. Cap is supposed to be 5 k ohms it is coil without cap 5.71 k ohms. Is it kinda weird both coils would go out within a month of each other and in less the 1000 miles or is that standard. Basicly was the shop stupid for only replacing one instead of both of them at the same time?
Does anyone have a ignition coil used or not that is still good they can send me here in oregon that would make it here before the weekend?

I've been chasing a gremlin on my bike for a couple months and seem to be having the same issues.
Thank you.

As a diagnostic procedure i get taking time and effort to test the OEM coils... But if you get to the point you want to replace them, for need or want... do the more modern coil on cap style.

If it is a coil I will do the mod, but I need to know if this is why I can't get it running right.
I've been chasing down issues left from two different shops. This was suppose to be the one toy that I simply enjoyed.
I am now an accomplished carb remover, valve shimmer, and cam timing expert. Lol

Are you getting any power to the coil? Check for voltage at the coils while cranking. If you've got voltage there on both you should have spark, if you don't have any spark then you're coils, caps, or plugs are bad. If there is no voltage to the coils then make sure it's got voltage coming out of the CDI box. If nothing is coming out of there, then check the pulse coils for signal coming into the CDI box.
