piston/cyinder clearance? should i get a hone?
where do you check piston to cylinder clearance? TDC? and these are my bores. since i am getting the cases split by my buddy to check the bearings i figure a hone while im at it. but if its not necessary i would rather not have to recheck piston ring gaps. here are some pics.

Well you would need to check the clearance at 3 different places along the bore to check for taper.
Unless you want to put pistons in while you have it apart, I would just leave them alone as they should be just fine.

Since you have it apart, you might as well put new rings in it.
You will want to deglaze it with a ball hone, for new rings.
to measure skirt clearance, you have to measure the bores at 3 heights, fore-aft and side-side, to get taper and roundness. Then you measure the piston skirt diameter and subtract it from the bore diameter.
For a quick, make-it-run situation, just deglaze it and put new rings in.

If your into it that far I have a set of standard bore high compression JE pistons with the ceramic top coat and molly skirt coat with rings I could sell you.
I also have a set of standard bore rings ordered them by mistake.

how much? i might take the rings off of you. ya im just gonna do glaze and put in new rings if the bottom end checks out. if the bottom end is gone then im gonna bump my part out thread again.

will i deglazing change the end gaps too much? the specs are .010-.016 inches. will standard size be good enough to use again? im assuming the cylinders have never been honed before this so no material should be missing if that helps with guess-timates
