HAH.. Thanks Old Yeller, yes, it was in fact the main fuse. Now, what cause it to go... . I printed out the PDF that Tweety was referring too in his response and will hopefully have an opportunity this weekend to tear it down and check it out.

Thanks, and it is expected... I probably could have searched longer but I gave up and took the easy route by asking first. I'll try not to do it again

Yeah... And I kind of expect rudeness... Not outright stupidity like psyclown here displayed (unless he is kidding, which I doubt as it would be way beyond very odd, if so consider it a failed joke...)

To the best of my understanding, the rectifier regulates the power sent to the main fuse. So when the rectifier goes out (which is a common problem on the SH), the main fuse receives an overdose of wattage therefore causing it to split. So yah, the bike will shut down instantly, no power, none, zip. That's what happened with mine, just speaking from my own experience, but I was lucky enough to be riding in day light when it happened. I didn't know the regulator could be a problem at the time, so I first replaced the fuse and it ran for 30 seconds before blowing again.

regulator "regulates" voltage to a specified value by shunting off voltage above a perdetermined value, in this case somewhere in the mid 13's VAC

rectifier "converts" VAC to VDC.

that is why it is called a regulator / recitifier or RR, it is actually 2 unified systems.

OK, this is really freakin rediculous...COMPLETELY....New Member or Old Member....some people dont know the accronyms for some of the PARTS/PROCESSES/TOOLS or whatever the case may be on this site or for much of anything at that matter.

And for people to get on here and bad mouth someone for no good reason......GROW UP. Relax, step back & add a "LINK" to help them if you know where it is on this site...or anywhere else, regardless of whatever ill-fathomed thoughts you have in your MIND that you are better cause you have the knowledge now (BUT DIDNT AT SOMETIME) and where in the same position at some point and time in your life, when you had (what you thought to be) a severe problem and didnt know where to turn to for the CORRECT ANSWER because you were paranoid that it might be CATASTROPHIC!

Chill people....NEW MEMBER or OLD MEMBER.

Cant we all just get along.

P.S. no one makes you read the posts/blogs anyway......
