Nothing on my bike was put together correctly: Petcock valve version
Soooo, figured I'd rebuild my petcock as I have gone through many other parts on the bike, and....
Uh, a spring came with the kit and isn't in the system, TWO holes are plugged with jb weld and one of the gaskets had a hole blown through it!
Should I try to drill the putty out of these? I can't imagine it's supposed to be there and would think that a working gasket would solve whatever issues the previous owner had...
I have a rebuild kit, this part is supposed to be sealed completely with rubber:
It's a wonder this thing ran for as long as it did!

Well do you have more time or more money?
If you have time, just clean the JB weld out and make sure the holes are clear. If you don't feel like messing with it, then see if you can find a used one but of course that will cost some extra cash.

You guys were right: good thing I went with getting a new one, as mine had three pieces missing from it- the plastic circle, little metal circle, and spring. I swear it ran before this- maybe Honda threw in some extra parts?

Sure it ran before this, but it also didn't turn off.. That is the carb floats were the only thing preventing your cylinders from filling with gas when the engine was off.
Now when the engine is off, the petcock will also be off (no vacuum).

Exactly. I just figured I didn't know how to work a motorcycle tank when I pulled it and fuel ran out of the bottom! I also couldn't leave it in the sun as the air in the tank warmed up it pushed more gas out- in retrospect I should have given Honda more credit than designing something like this, but hell that was like a year ago and I didn't know any better lol
