New Owner, Fan Question

Just got my 98 VTR last week. Today is mid-70s and sunny. I went home and back on lunch (about 12 miles) each way and when I get back to work the fan had kicked in. Temp gauge was right at middle. Is this normal for a VTR?

My fan kicks in usually in stop and go traffic when the bike temp hits 215-218F. I have an 03'. (I also have a manual switch for my fan.) But
It's absolutely normal. The one hang up with the VTR 1000 is they do run a little hot because the radiators sit at an oblique angle to the air flow. But it's perfectly normal for your fan to kick in at those temps.
