Question Need some opinions.

I'm trying to get an opinion on something. I'm wondering if I could get driving lights from wal-mart, advanced, auto zone, ect and make them work with the stock controls for the headlight. The only thing I can come up with is hooking one light up to the wires that powered the small light above the stock headlight for the running light. Then hook the other light up to the stock headlight's wiring so when you push in the button for the brights the other light comes on. I'm asking because I don't know much about wiring. What I'm really wondering is if this all sounds like it would work before I spend any money.

I haven't been able to find a light in the stores around me that does high and low. I know there's some available online. Yeah the light on top stays on all the time, I just wasn't sure if it put off enough electricity to power a a light big enough to see the road.

Not sure how well it will work out but something to think about is getting some bright wal-mart fog lights and wiring them into either the running lights of the signals or run a separate fuse off of a wire outside of the ignition switch so they get power when the switch is on. It kinda urks me to think about hooking them up to that small little light, could easily pop some fuses.

That's pretty much what I was worried about. I was hoping to hear if someone else had any success with this kind of thing.

Personally, I wouldn't tap into that little light with anything big. Looking at the wiring diagram, there are about nine bulbs, the speed sensor and the fuel indicator on the same circuit. Maybe run a relay from the battery that activates with the lights?

I added driving lights in 2000 to my 98. I ran from my auxilliary power terminal block via a fuse with 16 ga wire to the relay that is triggered from an ignition-on circuit thru an illuminated rocker switch mounted on the left clip-on for my twin 55-watt lamps that are mounted on the end of a clevis cut into aluminum tubes bolted to the inner black "cooling ducts" that extend out from the fairing nostrils. It helps having a volt meter to monitor all my added electrogizmos.

Wow. That sounds a little over my head but I think I caught some of it. This would be the main lights on the bike since I don't have a front fairing or stock headlight at all.

U DID NOT make that clear. Technically, a DOT conforming headlight is required then. Go pick up a used Triumph Speed Triple headlight assembly on fleabay triggered per the VTR OE headlight circuit and be done with it then.

I thought about that too. I found a place that sells kits for around $200. Just wanted to know if I could do it for less cash. I've seen a couple people riding around with the driving lights for a headlight just haven't been able to ask them how they did it.
