My gearbox sounds like a machinegun! :-(

Hello everyone!

I´ve been a member here for almost a year but this is my first post

First of all... My English is almost worse then my mechanical skills so I hope you can excuse me for misspelling sometimes..

To the point!

When I gear shift between first and second gear it sounds like ****, especially when I shift gears over like 2000rpm. If I try to put the in the second gear gently over 2000rpm it sounds like a machine gun. Therefore I have to force it in to second gear and damit, it sounds like a big BANG.

I also have problem sometimes with shifting in higher gears. The gear sometimes comes in to a "dead mode"(do you understand what I mean?)

Does someone have a clue what the problem can be and even better, a solution of the problem!
Hopefully I can fix it myself!

best regards

Lars / Sweden

Start with an oil change, shifter adjustment, and clutch bleed. Make sure clutch is fully disengaging. Refer to service manual. Good luck, Rob

As an aside, I'm always impressed by the ability of Europeans to express themselves in English. Yours is excellent. English is difficult because it is a very irregular language with a huge vocabulary. I hope you will post again.

Your english is better than half of americans.

worst case scenario -
It sure sounds like you have a bent shift fork.
Requires splitting the cases, basicly a complete overhaul...
which isnt that bad since you will have a new engine out the deal.
Not to make it sound easy.

I rebuilt mine for about $1800 full retail, my own labor.
The chain had flew off into the case and sheared the clutch slave cylinder pylons from the casting. I got the case halve set for a little over cost($800), but most rebuilds wont involve having to buy a pair of cases. Pistons and valve train parts and all the bearings you can handle make up less than half the total for mine.
Replace the shift forks anytime you are this far in, if they show even a ****-hair of wear on them.

I know by now weve scared him.
Try the easy stuff 1st of course, thats why I started my post with "worst case scenario"
