Mcct help/questions

Does it still bog down and die when warmed up? That could be caused by the CCT's being too tight... although it sounds like you fixed that?
The ticking sounds like exhaust leak to me. It's even possible that it was there before and you didn't notice it b/c you weren't listening for weird CCT noises before.

Hi 7Moore7. I did back out the mcct until i heard the chain start slaping around and then retightened but it hasnt fixed the weird idling or when I give it some steady throttle. Are the front cames suppost to be pointing out at a 45 degree angle to cross sect the bolts on the cam cover like the rear cause if they are i think it might be off. The chain has 43k miles on it as in worn much like the chain on tebs post. I'm not sure if I should be lining it up by the marks or by the cam lobe on tdc. Ugh lol

That looks correct to me. They aren't at a 45 degrees exactly on TDC, but they are symmetric and the "circular" part of the cam profile is above the bucket (just like you have it). FE and FI don't line up precisely on mine either, but if they're one tooth off it's very obvious. Line it up using the marks, not the lobes!

So if it's all lined up correctly, and you've had the tank off, here's where I've gotta throw one out: have you checked for PVLIR?
With the tank on, you have 3 lines connected to the petcock. Two fuel lines coming out the sides (the big ones) and one small vacuum line. This line should NOT be connected to the bottom nipple, but should be connected to the rear nipple that is pointed sideways. The bottom nipple is a breather and nothing is connected to it.
One more time for kicks: Nipple.

7moore ok I took it apart. this time i removed the right radiator as well. It looks that the mark was incorrect and actually I was a tooth off but its hard to tell. The pic above is after the adjustment. I did have a pvlir issue and thats probably what the idle was. How ever with the pvlir issue would that make it die at above 2k? or would that be a timing issue. So i had two issues or so i think pvlir and timing. It idles nicely now though i can detect a faint pop pop from the muffler maybe a backfire? Maybe i should re time it again with the marks and not the lobes? On a quick test ride in my neighborhood after i tensioned the ccts I have a nice clean powercurve all the way though. If the timing was incorrect I would see dips in this powercurve yes?

Yes you would notice.
PVLIR can translate into loss of power or dying at high rpm/s loads sometimes, only in that the petcock isn't flowing enough fuel for these, but is flowing enough for idle. Sometimes hard to diagnose over the internet...

Ok so I the problem this whole time was my hooking up the fuel incorrectly. That was causing the ticking, the crappy idles and the dying. I had adjusted the cams this morning by the lobes as I read on another thread with similar issues his timing was off which cause his bad performance. I thought perhaps the marks are wrong because the chain is no slacked. After I did that and set the fuel up CORRECTLY it was idling great except for some back firing. After reading your posts 7moore7 I reset the timing by the marks and not the lobes. Once again made sure all vaccum hoses were connected in the airbox correctly and on the tank. Put it all back together. Started up and it idles like a champ. Let it warm up no humming or clinking from the cam chains as I had adjusted those already and just backed the lock nut back 1/8 and backed the tensioner out to reset the cams then put it back reloctited and locked the nut back 1/8. THANK You everyone especially Saige and 7Moore7. So after 3 days of non stop taking it apart and puting it back together I am happy to report it is running correctly. THANK God I was about to kick it over lol
