Lowering footpegs

Lowering footpegs
I'm thinking of lowering the footpegs on the bike with this kit:

I'm not sure though which brackets I should use. They make 23mm, 30mm and 50mm. I guess 50mm is too much but how should I know. Has anybody done it or have any suggestions?
Thanks

Yeah, can't tell if those fold or not, but you'd want them to be able to if you're lowering them at all. I have Buell pegs on mine and the extra bit of legroom helps a lot with my right hip. However, I also have a Ohlins shock on the rear, and ride height may be different than stock (I never owned the bike with a stock shock on it). I also tend to hang off the bike when the going gets really twisty to avoid dragging hard stuff (bike leans less), but still manage to use the whole tire, so I know you can get lower pegs that stock and be safe...just make sure they fold...as RWhisen pointed out, the last thing you want to do is lever a tire off of the ground.

Those mount in the stock springclip, and folds just the same as the stock pegs if I remember correctly... But I could be thinking of another manufacturer doing the same thing, so no promises...

That's right, they mount and fold like stock. Searching the forum I saw that the buell pegs are about an inch, so about 25.4mm. Would you ask for even more legroom? I think the 30mm bracket would be ok.
p.s. My right leg goes numb in the back of the knee area, that's why I'm thinking about it.

I swapped out my stock ones with the Buell factory part numbers. Simple swap took all of 15 minutes and dropped them about 3/4 inch I think.
PS. It really helped with the hip pain I would experience on long rides

I've had them since 07/07. I got the 23mm mounting brackets (I don't think they had the 30mm then & 50mm is way too low) & the race pegs. If you go over 23mm I think you'll have issues adjusting the shift lever & brake pedal down enough. As it was I had already welded-in a 19mm piece of aluminum into the middle of the shift lever for my big feet, so lowering the pegs 23mm worked out with the geometry and adjusted to my taste. On the brake side you must remove the lock nut on the threaded adjuster rod & shorten the rod about 5mm (I safety wired the rod) in order to be able to adjust the pedal down enough. I also drilled 2 holes in the brake pedal and pop-riveted an aluminum extension plate to the bottom of the pedal, and glued a piece of rubber on top of the extension. This was necessary for my clod-hoppers because the mounting bracket is about 10mm thick an thus moves your boot outward 10mm so the brake pedal is too far inboard to comfortably pigeon-toe you boot sole, thus the extension (I don't have pics of this). I did extend the shift "peg" too (by removing the rubber sleeve & using a longer piece of stiff hose filled with plumber's epoxy) but found it was not really necessary. I also made my own heel heat guards but I rarely need them.
