It's actually a pretty good read.
Check out some of the links in the page, like all about oil, and all about oil filters. Also the link on the left about break-in.
I like this site if I need to get an oil related fix.... - Bob is the Oil Guy

IMO- WHY would you put a oil filter on your motorcycle that is produced by the same manufactor that produces the Purolator.
There are only a few Manufactors of filters(oil, air, hydro). And K&N is not one of those Manufactors..
An if you beleive that any other company spends as much time(racing, research) as Honda, or Toyota, Suzuki has spent over the past decades(over 50 years)..
Then please, use the CHEAPER quality.. The money you save for the oil, filter changes.. Put in your Piggy Bank for the bearing replacement later...

Besides you could comeand take a look at the TWO (2) S-hawk engines that are taken apart in the shop, Both engines had aftermarket oil filters... ("NOT OUT of Any of My Bikes")
yeah, but.....the one thing you likely don't know about those two engines is the maintenance frequency of the oil and filters. I've personally had very good success, and I suspect (but can't really prove) that it's because I am attentive to fluid levels and regular maintenance. From my experience, it's not as much a quality issue as a maintenance one. I do have my preferences on oils though. But then again, I have my preference on what kind of underwear is best.

I like to run K&N oil filters on the VTR, when I can afford them. They are a darn-good choice. (And, I always run K&N oil filters on my '96 Cobra.)

Regarding oil-change interval, 8K-miles is probably OK if you run synthetic oil, but if the bike sits for more than six or eight weeks, I wouldn't wait until 8K-miles to change the oil (Mobil 1 4T). Weird things happen to synthetic oil when it sits in a crankcase for too long.

Regarding choice of oil, Mobil 1 4T is fine, and you can buy it at any Advance Auto Parts store. But, if you don't mind spending extra to have the finest, Royal Purple is by far the best synthetic oil for motorcycles. Be forewarned, however: Royal Purple is mondo-expensive. ( I guess that it costs extra to make it purple.)

cheers,

I can respect that point of view, I knew the owners of the bikes, but not that well... And being that we are disclosing all opinions (boxer shorts.... from K-mart) Ha Ha
