I think the CCT's broke or the chain

I have had the worst luck with this bike
2 months ago I bought a 98 hawk. In that time I had the RR go out,
a water leak which I fixed myself then last week I lost the only key but found it sunday. The bike has 30k miles and I was going to take it to the dealer this week to change out the cct's. On my way to work there was chain slap sound I guess you would call it. Then thirty seconds later I am positive an internial chain broke....
This sucks. I called my wife an she came to pick me up. I guess I will call a tow truck and get it back to my house. I dont know what to do. I dont have money to even have it looked at and I know nothing about bikes. I think it is the front cylinder so I figure I will be ripping into it later this week. Is there a good write up on how to take off a head? I guess thats what I have to do... Any advice or tips other than use the search function?

Thanks,
Ken

Bummer man.

First off the superhawk is a very low maintance bike....normally

As for taking off the heads your best friend will be the owners manual. I have attached the thread for it.

I have read many times over that installing the CCT's is easy. See the thread below.

Sorry I cant help more, but personally I have not had a reason to pull the head off the motor.

Best of luck.

the CCT most likely let goyou will need to remove at least that VC and see if you can fish the chain out with a magnet. you will also have to reset the timing

Does it bend the valves when this happens?

I just had a friend help me get it home last night. So I will be opening it up this weekend to check out the damage. It sucked cuz I heard chain slap for a while and I was going to take it in this weekend to the dealer and have them replace the cct.

How Do I get the chain back on the lower sprocket?
Thanks guys, Ill keep you all posted on my drama.

that sucks to hear man, i hope things aren't too terribly fubar.

I guess you can chalk this one up to experience. always garage a bike once internal problems are suspected, especially if you've read all the threads on the forum about CCT's that let go and the damage caused by them.
