How to tell if MCCT's need adjustment?

I just welcomed a 2002 VTR1000F into my garage that has already had the manual CCT's swapped in. Previous owner also had paperwork from about 1,000 miles ago for valve adjustment. I'm hearing a loud intermittent clacking noise from under the tank towards the front of the bike. It occurs between 1k and 4k rpm, and is more noticeable when the engine is under load. No clacking when idling or revved in neutral. I've seen a few posts about similar noises, but the authors all had ACCT's.
The recent nature of the valve adjustment leads me to believe the valves themselves are not at fault.

Does this seem like the front CCT?

Who did the install and valve clearance? How much experience with the Superhawk do they have? Was the noise present before the cct install?

A professional shop did the valves, I trust their work. I believe the ape’s were installed by the previous owner. He’s advanced in age and a bit deaf, so there’s a good chance he didn’t hear it. The bike runs absolutely perfectly, so I don’t think any damage was done. Carbs were tuned at the same shop at the same time as the valves.

i only just came into possession of the bike, I have no idea if the noise was present before the swap.

I'd say under decel is where you'd be hearing a nasty noise if they were too loose. FIrst time I installed mine, I tensioned with the engine running and used sound. After locking them in, I never touched them and that bike sold with almost 34k miles. Once properly set, they typically don't need adjusted.

Best thing would have been to have them check chain tension when they were doing valves as the cover is already off.

At idle. slight rev the bike to about 3-4k and listen for rattle type noise. You'd hear it if they were too loose.

Thanks! I redo the adjustment on Friday. I'm in the southern US. Riding season all year-round.
