Are you talking about the backlash springs on the crankshaft primary drive gear?
If so, when you put the springs in, the primary drive gear and the thinner anti-backlash gear teeth are misaligned. You will need to rotate the thin gear until the teeth align. There is an alignment hole (maybe 2, for balance) that will line up when the teeth are aligned. Insert a drill bit that just fits the holes, to keep the springs compressed and the gear teeth aligned. Then you can slide them on to the crankshaft and remove the drill bit.
