Fork length's
My "98 VTR has a CBR 900rr front end with Heli bars mounted under the upper triple. I would like to install lower bars, but they hit the fairing.
Forks are mounted flush at the top. Are CBR forks the same length as stock ? How much higher can I raise them? . It seems to turn in like a truck. This is a track only bike I bought already set up. (mostly)

For all the searching, what I found was the CBR 900 forks are shorter than stock, I dont know by how much. I would like to raise the CBR forks, but I think if I go to much I would be creating a problem. Any ideas for what is safe, or ways to improve turn in ?

In that case leave the front alone and put a 4-5 mm washer on top of the mount for the rear shock instead... It basicly does the same to the geometry and shoul quicken steering without loosing ground clearence...

Good idea, The rear shock is an Ohlins, and it needs to be resprung for my weight. The bike weighs 421 pounds, curb weight, so following recommended spring chart may not be accurate. I just finished going through archives in performance mods secton, all 24 pages, I did not find any info on height above triple. Seems flush to top was it. Truthfully I need to determine WHAT is on the bike, I was told CBR900 forks, but it has 17 inch billet wheels f & R not 16 " on front. Should this post be in Perf Mod section? sorry if so. I will keep looking

Putting a 17' front wheel on early blades (92-99) was a common improvement so it's not impossible that your vtr actually has blade front forks but with a 17' wheel from CBR600F.
Trust me you would look for a 17' wheel if you had the standard 16'
These is no way to find good, soft tyres for sport use for a 16' wheel these days.
If you want to drop your clipons, raise the back as Tweety said, just be carefull not to raise to much because you will lose grip at the exits with the gas on because the bike will start "moves" hard at the back.
The best thing that you can do, as Mr Moriwaki said before almost 10 years in Suzuka 8 hours race was to make tests (with raising the rear), mind you that he used standard swingarm lenght and a custom showa front forks from cbr900 on that endurance bike so there is no way you have problems with standard hp on your bike. (Endurance Moriwaki bike had about 150hp)

Thanks for the replies, I have been away from the computer, sorry for the late reply.I think my first move should be to raise rear a little, then test. I think I will post in the general discussion area with some photos, there someone might be able to identify forks, I can find no numbers on them .. they are 45mm tubes/sliders, this I measured.
