Fan sounds like cards in the spokes?

While we are talking about the fan, mine started making that noise as soon as it kicks on. You can hear it a little by turning it by hand, anyway my question is do i have to remove the radiator or can you sneak it by, i just had the CCT's done w/ fresh antifreeze and everything? Thanks in advance!

Could it be hitting a piece of debris? In my experience buying wrecked bikes, it usually is hitting the rad.

fan

Nahh it's not hitting anything, you only hear the noise when you turn the fan the direction it normally turns, kinda weird.

My vote is it's still hitting something. The way the blades are angled it might be passing by the debris when going the other direction.

If the bearings are shot, it might have enough slop to hit the edge of the plastic guard.

I'm gonna tear it out tonight or tomorrow night I'll let you guys know what it is, just for the heck of it! I can't believe it's hitting any thing I haven't dropped it but i've seen stranger stuff. The fan does seem to wobble though.

Hi Johny,
I didn't take the radiator out. 3 10mm bolts to remove, top bolt has a ground wire to it and a wire tie-down . The PAIR hose will probably get in the way if you have one. I also had to remove the lower rad bracket from the engine block (see photo with arrow in other thread) and let it hang down from the fairing. For the wiring, there is a temp sensor wire at the back of the rad and the power feed is clipped to the front of the rad. If you take that off you'll need a thin screw driver to release a catch on top of the molex adaptor. The catch is on the back closest to the rad.

I think your fan housing is busted. Mine did the same thing. It's not a big break but just flops around in there when its housing is broke and the fan engages.

fan

Took out the fan last night, it makes noise when you turn it out of the shroud, soooo. gotta replace it by next week for Myrtle Beach. Thanks for all the tips, I was ready to take off the fairing and all kinds of stupid stuff! Hope to see some Hawks down there.
