Extending Range

Is there anything anyone here is doing or modding to extend your Superhawk's sortie range? 130 miles on a tanks is evidently pretty good for these machines... but I want-need further. Are there any aftermarket tanks that can give me an extra gallon or two?

As mentioned you can fit a VFR tank, or a 19L Euro VTR tank, or get a custom one made.

or carry a gas canister/jerry can for extra fuel capacity.

I ran a VFR tank for a while, and while it's only a couple of extra liters, it's a HUGE difference in range since it also drains better (there's about .5 gallons in the 'wings' of the VTR tank that sit below the level of the petcock and are therefore useless).

After a couple of adjustments to other things that required r&r of the tank, I ended up getting a leak in my adapter plate seal that I could not ever get sorted out. I bought a spare VTR tank to cut the bottom off of and have welded to the bottom of the VFR tank to hopefully solve the leaking issue, but ended up going back to a stock tank in the interim. I still have the VFR tank and semi-hacked-apart spare VTR tank in the garage... no real need for more range now that the SH is track-only.

How much for that Modified fuel tank?

It's not completed yet... I never got around to it, but I still have the VFR tank and nearly cut in half VTR tank. The plan was to hack the bottom off the VTR tank and have it welded onto the bottom of the VFR tank so I could use a standard VTR fuel valve without having to worry about the adapter plate leaking (The VFR fuel pump bolts inside the bottom of that tank, and has a significantly larger hole, thus needing an adapter). The follow-on bit would be to weld the SH rear mount onto the back of the VFR tank in the correct location to make it bolt straight up. I had built the adapter so that bolted in place and held the VFR tank just above the seat, I think I've got some pictures of the bolted up setup around here somewhere...

Since I'm track-only now and range isn't as much of a consideration, I'd send it your way for $20 + actual shipping. Considering it's still a work in progress (which I do have all the pieces for), PM me your email address if you're still interested and I can shoot you some photos of the bits I've got. It'd probably be best (for shipping) if I went ahead and finished hacking the rear part of the VTR tank off and sent the VFR tank and rear/bottom of the VTR tank in one box, but you can take a look and see what you think.

If I'm not mistaken, an aftermarket tank fabricator made a fiberglass or carbon fiber tank for the hawk. Same general shape, just more capacity and rather expensive. Maybe somebody else on the forum knows more about this and has contact info.

I could do a Mod on a tank, using Carbon Fiber, but I just do not have the TIME. And I don't know if I would want a tank made of CF or Fiberglass. I like a metal fuel tank.

A tank from Honda is $900.00USD. With that in mind it's not too far off.

That's a good point and I did look at that. It was just a shock at seeing a number like that. I've bought whole cars and bikes for less.

I wasn't recommending it. I just didn't want to limit your options by not telling you
