EVX~~~orEIX?.......that is the Question....
Hello, all~~
My question is this: Has the factory recommended
spark plug [DPR9EVX-9] been superseded by
another [DPR9EIX-9]? I went to my local shop
today to buy new plugs for my '98 SHawk, and
was told this. my Haynes service manual pictures a
plug[EVX] that appears to be a special one for this model
[with a longer unthreaded neck between the hex and the threaded portion of the plug], while the
[EIX] plug does not have this longer shape, being conventional in appearance.
I've been riding for 43 years, but this is my first
VTR1000 [GREAT bike!!!], and am not that familiar
yet with this bike.
Did the parts man just want to make a sale[he didn't have the EVX in stock], or is the EIX---
the shorter plug--- OK to use in this bike?
Thanks~~

The Ron Ayers online microfiche still lists the "EVX" as the plug for the VTR.
The NGK application chart lists the "EIX" for the VTR, as do a number of online retailers.
Looks like you can use either one.
