Coolant Leak? I think

Hey guys whats up, im new here, still getting used to the forums, i tried searching before i asked, found a few issues but no luck matching them to mine.

I have a 1998 VTR1000F, and i was driving it on the high way today doing about 50, and i noticed my leg was soaking wet, so i looked down and on the right side of the bike coolant was just pouring out. I looked at the temp gauge and it was in normal operating temp. So when i stopped of course it was smoking, but i couldnt see anything leaking. so i let it cool off, and i checked the resovior, and it wasnt open or anything, i checked what hoses i could see and nothing was split, well i got back on the bike and rode it home and no more leak. I have read some of the other posts and i am kinda thinking its that weep hole people are taking about, but im not sure. what do you guys thing. Any help is or advice is great.

Welcome!

The weep hole is not likely as you describe the problem.

I suspect the overflow tube is either disconnected from the radiator, or that the tube has a tear somewhere between the radiator and overflow reservoir.

Does the reservoir have any coolant in it? If so, approximately how much?

How long have you owned this machine? Any previous coolant leakage?

The overflow tube may also be disconnected from the reservoir, split overflow tube or the plastic reservoir may have cracked as well. How long since the last service appointment?

I agree with beerbreath's evaluation. BTW 3 years is a substantial amount of time. "Only" would be like 2 weeks. After 3yrs you know this bike.

Coolant leaking past the seal and out the weep hole is a dribble at most.. Never seen one "pour" out.
If you leg was soaked,,, and then it stopped leaking (assuming it was not at that point out of coolant.. ) I agree with the observations of those above. Check the hose leading from the rad to the reservoir. Loose rad cap. Loose or cracked reservoir cap.
