Clutch Replacement

While at the track over the weekend, I noticed that my clutch was slipping quite a bit under heavy load. From what I've been able to find, Barnett seems to be the way to go. Anyone have any experience and can tell me if just a spring replacement would suffice or if I need new plates too? The bike has about 18,000 miles. I'm thinking the Barnett clutch plates would be better for the track anyway, but just wondering what other folks think.

Don't go with EBC, for sure. Other than that, you cannot go wrong with Honda.

Has anyone had luck with just replacing the springs for something heavy duty? I'm going to take the clutch plates off and check them before I get anything, but hoping that perhaps just stronger springs will solve my problem.

I replaced mine with a Barnett. Seems really stout. It's all or nothing when it comes to replacements like this. The labor is just not worth doing it half-assed.

Labor is a piece of cake. I can do it with my eyes closed. Just wondering if people have experienced weak springs, or the entire system goes at the same time. My old VX was a spring problem.

When you say you replaced yours, are you talking springs, of the whole thing?

I replaced springs only, when I did my engine. They were recommended for the higher torque of a modified engine. My clutch plates were fine.

As the clutch plates wear, the spring force decreases. It's a judgement call, whether you need to replace both. Stiffer springs won't hurt.

thanks. I'm going to pull it apart and take a look before I order parts. if the plates are good, I may just go with springs. That was my problem with my old VX800, but I ordered parts without knowing the friction plates were still in good shape. Since I had them, I went ahead and replaced them, but I don't want to needlessly spend the money at this point if I don't have to.
