charging issues (beating a dead horse, maybe?)

long story short, i got stranded. I got a push start to get home shut off the bike and just for giggles tried to start it up, no luck, and now i need some expertise.
I replaced the R/R about a month ago with a mosfet fh012aa.
so my first thought was to go there and check for bad connections. I tested everything at the plug and got zero continuity on everything except the ground wires, good news right. I then went to the battery it holds around 12.5v with the ignition on and the bike not running. when at idle or revved up the battery still says 12.5v. After that i searched the forum a bit and decided to check my stator. zero continuity to ground on any of the three wires and resistance is all identical between poles at 0.9ohms.
now my question is why won't my battery charge if the r/r and the stator are both good

Loose terminal bolts on the battery? or duff battery?

Check the condition of the starter lead terminal where it bolts to the starter motor - is it corroded?

What do you know the answer is in the Service Manual, who'd have thought!?

Amazing how you know something but become blind to it since you see it so often. Happens to me constantly.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Joe but the truth is i was just being lazy and came here before checking the manual. After going through the flow chart though I came across something interesting. It turns out after doing the current leak test that the brand new mosfet r/r is shorting out. This is pretty weird isn't it? I thought these things were supposed to be the answer

Yeah but that is a mechanics pitfall too. Replace something then be blind to it either being no good or failing quickly.

That's what I thought too. Still running original R/R at 42k but it's always in the back of my mind. I think Jaime Daughtry suggested running a heavier ground wire, I need to go ahead with that.

Did a little price comparison between eBay and the local shop on an r1 r/r. EBay was about$130 and the shop was$250. That's just craziness. The eBay one is coming from Missouri and other one is sitting on the shelf!

Is it this?

YAMAHA SHINDENGEN FH020AA REGULATOR W/CONNECTORS /REPLACES FH012AA

Easy to fit - just use Open Barrel Crimps http://www.xj4ever.com/crimping%20my%20style.pdf

$130 sounds expensive to me. But I used an R1 unit that was like $40

No wicky the one I got doesn't come with the plugs but I already have them so it's OK. $130 included shipping costs and the were a couple cheaper ones on there.none used that I found and I didn't want to buy another knock off and be doing this again next week
