Changing the #6 Gasket........HELP!!!

How in the world do you get that bolt off of the right side of the exhaust manidold?

I have tried ever thing i have used the 10mm on a small and medium sproket but can't get enough access to get off..what am i doing wrong, now i believe if i take of what ever metal piece sticking out of the motor would help (right beside the right brake peg on the motor).

Anyway i have the other bolt off and the band but can't get the last bolt...please help

front or rear cyl? Are you using sockets? Have you tried an open end wrench?

RCVTR is an unknown quantity at this point
WD-40 or other penetrating oil helps a lot.

the best tool is the one that gives you the best leverage. I don't recall what worked best for me.

Edit - No need to take the CCT off

Just use a 10mm ratchet spanner, with as suggested wd40

well finally got the pipe out and to my surprise, no gasket, tried fitting new gasket will not fit, tried and tried kinda messed up gasket, there goes 22.00 bucks

know it still has the stock band, honda dealer band has not came in yet, been a week and a day they say tomorrow.

anyway i ma wondering was it just the band causing the leak anyway and will the new oem work or do you guys think i will need an aftermarket.....now all the other gasket appears to aftermarket bands.

have you had to replace one, perferably the rear exhaust band, by the clutch cover

I had to remove my stock gaskets to get the aftermarket pipe to fit.. But as I said, the clamp system that my MIG pipes use are quite strong and don't leak at all without a gasket.

Not sure why your trying to change the silencer section gasket when you have an aftermarket silencer as was determined in your other thread.

Now it appears you've taken the 'zaust headers off you'll more than likely need header downpipe gaskets

As for clamps it's your choice, depending on availability, whether to get a OEM Honda clamp or a marine quality Stainless Steel replacement.

You could check with a muffler shop to see if they have clamps.. Any that you'd find at home depot is not likely to be strong enough.

Before you get hung up on clamps - now that you've got the sections of exhaust pipe off, have you worked out what is going on here with your pipes:

"can cleary see that there is a gap..it appears to have either lost some metal or pipe is not in correctly"

I just called the local dealer and he has never heard of miklar clamps, he stated that they had a cobra brand.10.95 and would have to order, he said for seal it would be 10.95.

is it better to go with the aftermarket.....it seems to be top choice for any replacement as i see on the forum

anyway i just looked at where the clamp and seal are, i noticed that halfway around there is a tight seal and the other half you can cleary see that there is a gap...........it appears to have either lost some metal or pipe is not in correctly...............if i was to take clamp off would i be able to take piping a loose or would i have to dissconnect bolts from where it bolts to motor?

seems as though the diameter of the header pipe to me does not fill the other pipe up by mm or 2 to me remind you i wear glasses.

anyway that's why i am surprise that the gasket does not fit in the connecting pipe, hower with the new band on it tight and i have the purging side thingy on the band lined up with one of the slits of the connecting pipe, with the band tight, i started her up and it still leaks, same as before, is there something wrong with getting this welded.

Before welding your whole exhaust pipe solid - which will lead to problems down the line like how will you ever take it apart...

Sounds like the silencer link pipes were probably bodged on from a system not specifically designed for the Storm.

Your options are, off the top of my head:

1) Get a system that is designed to fit the storm headers

2) Bodge it 'n' fix it with beer cans, exhaust paste and clamps galore

3) Exhaust Muffler Reducers Shims - bought or fabricated to fill the slack

http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/cata...rs-p-2952.html

4) Weld it solid and be done with it

Jardines, at least the chrome midpipe/round black powdercoat muffler system, don't use gaskets to connect the mids to the stock header...some aftermarket slip ons do, like tbr and devil and some don't, like jardine and d&d. If you're trying to fit the #6 gasket in there you're only going to drive yourself nuts it doesn't use one.

And yeah it sounds like the possiblility that whoever had the bike before you may have rigged something up and the pipe may not belong on there or they damaged it? It's hard to tell over the computer... I'd be happy to take a look at it for you I currently have two superhawks that are both apart and have two headers hanging up in the garage. PM me if you wanna mail me the midpipe in question and I'll have a look at it for you. I've had a couple of the same jardine systems as well as tried almost every other exhaust they make for this bike at one time or another.

And finally if it's a big loud leak yeah there's a problem, but as was said in the other thread if it's a little wispy leak I think that's much more common and not really anything to worry about. And no don't weld the midpipe to the header.
