carb running issues

So i followed hawks carb thread. I installed 48 pilots with 178 mains from 172 i believe(sorry i did it two months ago) anyways the issue i am having is when i am cruising below 4 grand i get alot of missing. like a carb is cutting out. i also failed to mention it has a jet kit needle in it set on the 2nd or 3rd clip from the top. it also has a k&n airfilter and pretty much a straight thru pipe. I also get sporatic idle. some days it will idle at 1k and other days it will idle at 1400. And it never has an even idle. i read the whole carb thread and also used the search feature and still stumped

Well, reading the whole thing and following the whole thing is obviously different...

With a K&N in there, you can pretty much disregard the setup posted in that thread and start experimenting on your own... That is a very good and tried and true setup FOR THE OEM FILTER...

So either get an OEM filter and stock needles, springs and jets, and set it up like that, or try your own setup, based on advice given by people using similar components to yours...

HerbVTR100f..you also didn't say if the TPS was adjusted to 500ohms or less. But that aside Tweety is right and Ive read the carb thread several times and nowhere in it does it say that it will work with a K&N or needles other than shimmed stockers.

My bike runs perfectly with the carb thread settings and a k&n only cuz I am too cheap to pay big bucks on an oem.

I never touched my tps either, have you tried synching the carbs and checking the fuel screws? Those are low rpm adjustments. Also you should check you airbox for leaks/ disconctd hoses since same deal there. If you are randomly sucking in air or losing vacuum it will affect low speed rideability.

Straight thru pipes are not doing you any favors btw.

Got the pm. i should say it really isnt straight thru. it has a resonator welded on it from the previous owner but i call it straight thru. this will give ne something to do.this weekend for sure. my friend who is a mechanic at rhe honda stealership is going to help me out. i should also say that the pair valves are disabled.

Just make sure your not missing other stuff like vacuum lines cracked or open.
