Hey guys
I was riding this afternoon and my 02 hawk just died. It started back up. I have seen the posts for the rectifier, especially the one from Denmah. But could this be caused from anything else????

Very hard to figure it out over the internet but....check all connections to begin with, battery, inline connections etc. Although it sounds almost like the symptoms of running out of gas. Like I said almost impossible without being there. Did it happen just the one time and then started right back up? Did it die instantly or was it a gradual thing?

I noticed last year that when it was warming up, the bike would die out of the clear blue. But had not seen any issues with it while riding. Since the bike is not injected, could the fuel pump be going bad?

You may want to have a quick look at the vacuum-actuated diaphragm located in the fuel petcock mechanism. My bike pulled this kind of stunt on me twice in 50,000 miles and both times the diaphragm was torn, causing a fuel starvation problem. It would always start up again after stalling.

Did the bike started back up just after he died or you have wait some time before to restart it?
Because my girlfriend also had that kind of trouble with is F4 2000, the bike just stop, she wait a couple of minute and the bike stated up!? I was very suspicious, I checked the battery, checked the fuel, changed the spark plugs, and it was still making this, not often but on some long ride!? Hummm
Like I said on some previous post, I had two R/R failure on my VTR and both time it have done the same thing; just shut down without any warning and blow the main fuse by the way! Thus, I was not thinking it could be the same problem on the F4 but when I saw that it was the same R/R on is 600 and that she was at 36 000Km, I take the chance and I also perform the Yamaha R1 R/R mod on is F4! And after this no more trouble!!!
Could it be just a coincidence!? It's hard to explain but I think that when the poor stock R/R of Honda goes hot when they are old, they could blow up or just stop to work temporary the time they cool down! But this can not be true for all, I had a F3 1997 and two 900RR ( 96 and 98 ) before and none of them make me that kind of trouble!?
It's like a random problem? I don't know, but what I know it's that we no more have these trouble!

These bikes are notorious for stalling when coming to a stop. As a matter of fact most V twins are as well, from the internal pressure. Harley's have a case vent to try to solve the problem which the superhawk has in the breather but obviously that doesn't work. There is a post on here that claims the problem is in the carbs to solve this problem they used a carb slide cleaning and lube but I don't know the success rate.
