Bad CCT

I bought the MCCT's from Superdutyd and began installing them, rear being the first. That went well, finger tight and cinch the lock nut. Rotated the crank a few time to make sure and moved on to the front. Ah, so easy to access too. Removed the bolts and pulled up on it but didn't budge and pulled harder and harder. Finally it came out -------- in pieces!!!!!!! All the parts of it intact but now separated because the retaining ring spring thingy caught the inner edge of the hole and pulled out of the groove it rests in. Now, why would it be that way? Because it must have been faulty from manufacture and didn't seat completely in the groove. I installed the new PERFECT one and moved to the bench to check this Honda failure out. All the parts were fine and new looking and the spring is fine. The retaining ring is slightly distorted of course but I had to put it all back together just to see if it was ok and it is. I must have wrapped the spring 1 revolution more than the factory because the cct has more initial tension now than the other one. So there it is, a potential catastrophy averted and no failure possible now. Thanks Superdutyd----

That clip comes off pretty easy, did you slowly back out the screws while tapping the cct loose? It may have caught an edge when you pulled it out and came off

Thanks for the info, bud. I want to change out my stockers even with 5K miles on 'em. Link to these new MCCT's? Thanks.

Ok, bro here they are. Get the blockoff plates in black, too. I'm thrifty but I suggest you get both plates and cct's and be done with it. They're outstanding.

Haha, those in the link are good "aftermarket" ones. But if you mean made by a professional company, APE CCT's run about 100 bucks a pair + gaskets and shipping.

Or less than $20 if you make your own.

Here's a set in nice pink for $130 ALL TOLD made by 'the pro's'
APE Manual Cam ChainTensioner Honda 1000VTR Superhawk | eBay

But here's a pic of better ones for much less cost and manly to boot. There's no real comparison.
