Angry why can't people just be more upfront!!

so, I dive in on a 98 superhawk, post says runs great, list of goodies, bla bla bla

having a limited budget, i look around at a few different bikes.

this one seems good, owner seems like a nice guy

I go to see it, asking 2800

I look it over, bit dirty, ran good, typical bumps for a 12 y/o bike

kbb says 2200 for less than top condition, I start there offer 2200, he wants more, 2600, we settle on 2400.

yes seems like a good deal

I get home, take her for a long ride, holy pop pop

******* thing is a POS, first time in 20+ bikes I have owned, I got owned

I do a bit of investigating, o forgot to mention the cct blew out, and we fucked up the timing and the valves!!! but its here on the WORLD WIDE WEB for everyone to read

forgot to mention its going to need a little work!!!

I guess I am more upset that I didn't pass on this one and look for a nicer one here on the forum.

ARRRRH

with 2 kids and the bike my only transport to work, it is not easy to just keep ******* with it

I have a bad feeling that the rear cyl has a bad valve from his cct issue

whatever, guess its just a lesson learned

What would you offer, for a complete set of cylinder heads_ The heads are off a 2004 with less than 10k.. The heads need nothing (except head gaskets)

will the 04 heads fit on a 98 motor? if its the same i have NO idea what there worth, any ideas, starting point? trade for other parts?? I have a second red tank, tail, left side ferring, front fender, stock exaust from i believe an 02,

I don't want to lowball you, and truly have no idea what the heads are worth.

The '04 heads will bolt right on. The cams do have a different grind to them so if you went this route, you would want to swap in the original cams into the new heads.

Also if he is not looking to trade anything, shoot me a PM if you would like to sell the tail that you have. I also need a left fairing but I thinks things are still too tight right now to pick one of those up.

Not really sure on fair market value. I didn't see any listed the last time I was on e-bay. Complete motors go for between $600-$800 to give you a starting point. Maybe someone else can help with a fair price for a set of heads.

I would do a compression test, and/or a leak down test, to confirm bent valves, before buying heads.

motormouth is an unknown quantity at this point
I bought a used set of heads recently for $150 , if you are patient you will find them for a reasonable price .

It sounds like time to do a leak down test so you can try to pin point what the problem really is.

I don't think you can lose a cam belt/timing chain on a Honda Engine without bending a valve. You're right Mike - leak-down in the only way although if you take the carbs off and stick a stethescope tube down the intake you can hear the valve hissing if it's bent. Procto for the exhaust valve.

Can't say for sure about Honda Motorcycles, But I have repaired a LOT of Honda car engines with bent valves by just replacing the valves. Pull that sucker apart, and just make sure the guides are good.

+1

On a car with an interference engine, just replace the valves. Especially with the small valves used with 4 valve heads, the pistons should be okay. But as stated by jbaxx, check the guides and seats.

I knew someone with an Integra who went over the recommended interval for timing belt replacement twice, and got bit both times. Guaranteed bent valves on that engine.

well, as I have listed in my other thread
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=23583

as i work towards the carb fart, back fire i continue to find new evidence pointing to either bent valves or a high than normal carbon build up in the pistons.

I have the factory jet kit, set as guided by the forum however there is a k&n air filter, I would believe its way too much air to compensate for with even the richest setting on the jets. I am thinking of pulling the heads, cleaning up, checking/replacing the valves, front cct and reassemble. jet properly for D&D slip on with a stock air filter.

if this does not take my carb fart away, i am going to go back to bass fishing and give up lol
