WSBK at Nurburgring: SPOILER

This could go on forever. I only saw one replay of the incident, couldn't find it on you tube, and what I saw was Rea trying to pass on the outside, then diving in behind Haga and coming up under him, using him as a berm. Just seemed like too risky of a move, especially that early in the race.
Maybe they do need mirrors and horns, but then that would just be driving in Tijuana.
And for DeAngelis, he should be taken out just for the helmet he wears.

Ha ha! Actually I do prefer mirrors.
Looking back at it, I don't believe the bikes made contact.
The pic on crash.net seems to show Haga's elbow was hit. I think Haga forks compressed completely right before he lost control. Does anyone think that th'ise contact caused his brakes to lockup causing the bike to go out of control?

I found highlights of the race on SPEED.
They didn't show the pass that Nori crashed on, but I saw a very aggressive pass that he made on Johnny Rea. Fortunately Johnny saw him and changed his line to avoid contact.
That's racing in my book. When you go racing, you accept the risk.

OK, I was watching this pass very closely and saw it twice on speed (original and reair) It was a block pass by Haga. He drafted from behind Rea on the start/finish straight. Rea defended tight, Haga bombed up the inside, Rea gave him room. While that part was clean, Haga's line was a bit wide and he was way tight which slowed his turn. Rea saw the opening inside and took it. This view is not the best angle, but sufficient to see what happened.

Looks like I found a TweetyBird, lol!
LOL! Well, FWIW, the speed coverage today was fairly good on Spies' pass on Haslam (i musta been pissing or something sun.) they showed the pass from beginning to end at full speed twice and if they touched it was just barely from what I saw... and it was after Rea had ripped off a fastest lap and Haslam was (beginning) to lose touch a bit...in the waning laps... if anything, Haslam could have backed off, conceded the position, and kept 3rd place (from an admittedly non-racer's USA-centric POV)...

It's not a hard pass in my book, not at all. All Haslam had to do was back off and live to fight for 2nd another lap.

the telling fact I see is that Spies gets as close as he can to MAKE the pass (and consequently, the chicane) but continues to TIGHTEN his line until he is COMPLETELY past Haslam and into the right hand portion of the chicane and Haslam is nowhere near him, out of frame.

You did find a tweety bird! That took forever to process... I had to go to work...
Actually the hit is on the set up of the corner... Spies hits Haslam leg to leg... And I'm not saying hit as in hard... But hard enough to make Haslam sit up and take notice, and with a bumpy circuit (I know that corner very well from first hand experience) then he's of line and out of road...
Like I said hard pass... Borderline, but not dirty...

Ok. I realize this is a bit outdated, but I finally got home and watched the races.
First off, Nori was completely demoralized after race 1. He gave Ben everything he had and Spies just flat outraced him.
In race 2, Nori knew that Ben got a bad start. He needed to be in front and getting some room, because if Ben caught him it was over. He was running scared.
When I first saw the pass by Jonny Rea, I thought "Oh man, that was a bit too aggressive." I watched it several times and it still looked bad. But then after thinking about it, it was Nori that made the mistake. H knew that he had a bad line into turn 1 and knew if he ran it wide, he was going to get stuffed by 3 Hondas. He ended up almost parked at the end of the front straight. So slow in fact, that he didn't even slide, he just tipped over.
Jonny, Leon and Carlos all set up on the racing line. The only alternative for Jonny would have been to overbrake it as well. Nori tried to make the turn, but got caught in Jonny's line. Jonny was going at least twice as fast. Probably more.
Nori's fault.
