I was at Barber Sunday to watch a few friends race in the WERA events.
I learned of the death of a 14 year old young man. His death was the result of a crash in Friday's practice.
Sad news.
He's from New York and I just wondered if you had any knowledge of him. Apparently he was quite an up-and-coming rider.

Really sad when any rider is seriously injured - or worse. All the more so when it is a kid.
I feel bad for his family and friends.

Yep.. very tragic. Reminds me of the young cousin of the Hayden's who lost his life this year. I think he was 12.
People who let their kids get into roadracing surely are aware that serious injury & death are strong factors to be considered.

I was beginning to think I had done something to make you shun me!
Yeah, even now thinking back about it, it was a sad thing. I read a fair amount about the kid. Visited his MySpace thing, and other sites too.
It is easy to be philosopical about such things, but I am reminded:
Somebody's kid died.
Some kids lost a good friend.
Some kid doesn't get to experience the number of years of joy and frustration I have.
I just recently had two friends lose kids (mid-upper teens) to drugs, and that too reminded me of just how cool it is to be alive each day.
Warren Zevon's advice to all, as he was dying with cancer......
"Enjoy every sandwich"
I do.

Very sad, there were two kids there practicing on my track day earlier this summer. I think they were about this age, very fast on 125cc 2 strokes i beleive.
I have a son the same age, he races MotoX and tore his knee up real bad in a very scary crash thispast spring. He was leading the race and got the bike crossed up off of the lip of a 40 foot jump and crashed hard. My life flashed in front of me as i ran toward him and lost sight of him for a few minutes due to a huge jump. When i finally could see him again he was sitting up in extreme pain, but i was so happy he was awake, aware, and moving.
My prayers are out to the young mans family and friends.......
