Did a little dragracing tonight
Took the hawk to my local 1/8th mile for $15. Boy is it hard to launch. Got my best times launching around 4500 rpm, slipping the clutch, and short shifting into 2nd as soon as the front end started coming up, shifting at 10k after that.
Best run out of 13 was the last:
70 degrees. Pretty humid, 78%.
60' 2.119 (2.045 best of the night)
1/8th 7.606
Mph 99.77

I think the quarter would be fun. Even with the grabby clutch, it ought to be good for mid-11's I would think. I'll have to wait till I get to the MotorPlex some day to find out. I need to find out at what RPM it goes from slipping to grabbing. Seems to slip ok at lower RPM, but if you rev it up to 7-8k and try to engage the clutch, it just grabs and you have to pull the clutch in, I think, to keep out of trouble. The question I have to work out is, does it accelerate harder at partial throttle in 1st, keeping the front end down, or at full throttle in 2nd.
For comparison, I launch my 600 Bandit at 9k rpm(12k redline), and have gotten down to 7.8s 1/8th with a 1.81 60' time, but quite a bit slower then the Hawk on the top end at 89mph. Launching it at 9000rpm vs 4000rpm netted me 0.2 seconds there. Huge difference.
