WOW...Ducati's new Monster 1100!
Ok, sports fans..How about this: Ducati just announced their new Monster 1100 and 1100s. A claimed 95hp and 80 ft/lb torque, in a Monster weighing approx 370 lbs... Supposed to be showing at the IMCs coming up. I'm drooling already...see http://www.monster.ducati.com

Disappointing
It is the same engine as the Hypermotard and as a Hawk owner you will be disappoined with the performance. Solid bikes but the power band is hard to get used to after riding a Hawk. Awsome looking bikes non the less.

How is the powerband different on the Duc from the Hawk??

Hi all, i believe the this new Monster have Mutistrada engine, wet clucth less maintenance, air cool, light weight but after a decade long 1100 Monster still a underdog HP compare to S-hawk. New trellis frame, better headlight and SSSA beautiful a copy of MV Brutale, and ugly rear exhaust. I saw afew at the Indy Gp amazing and sound nice.

Nothing at all. I just have something against valves that go out of adjustment more frequently than sprung valves and require shim fiddling to bring them back in. Desmo is not needed on engines with RPMs below 15K. Its just overkill. It sure can hold its own with the pneumatic valves and is cool for racing, but I want a nice easy maint bike for the street. Of course I love the looks of the Ducs. Just don't have the $$ or the time for them.

Not the prettiest thing, but I can appreciate form following function. I wonder about the single swingarm though, how can that reduce weight?

I appreciate your reply. I guess I should have phrased my question better. I meant it as being funny, but I dont think it came across that way. Thanks again for your reply.

Powerband
Like someone said, HP can't be compared unless you factor in weight. But all that aside, our bikes pull like tractors compared this motor. The Duc is quicker spinning, doesn't make the torque until later and redlines sooner. It really is harder to ride fast. But at the reduced weight, it may still be a quick bike. They're all quick if you ride them right. I just wouldn't put out that kind of money for the difference. RC8/1098/999/RSV, now that is a different story.

Monster 1100-1100S
That is right, in order to make up for HP Monster replace of parts by plastic (gas tank cover), Marchesini forge aluminum instead of diecast wheels...A few year ago M S4r claimed 390 dry be4 fluid then top of scale at 454 lbs but of course S4r 4v and same engine w/999+liquid cool. Anyway the new 1100/s Monster gona be a blast to ride's joy but on the dark side it's tough for anyone to spend $11000- 1100 M, <$15000>USD 1100/S for hard earning dollars of today USA economy to the motorcycle which not deliver more than 100 ponies.
