New Buell...1125R....what do you think?
has anyone seen this thing....looks good to me...146hp @ 9800 and 82 ft. lbs. @ 8000!
If honda doesn't come out with a new Supertwin....this maybe my next choice...
What do you all think?

FYI.. there is already another thread concerning the new Buell.. may want to look at it, as most have already expressed their opinions there, Consequently you may not get alot or even good response on this one..
But.. since I havent, yet.. I like the #s.. I dont like the naked look, or the huge frickin radiators hanging off the sides.. I'd have to find some after market fairing kit to puy on it.. again, to suite MY taste...

Cleveland, did you measure the shawks power at the crank? It probably has 110hp, just not at the tire. Companies (car motorcycle, fourwheeler, boat, etc) rate power for the consumer where it has the most. Its about selling, not being honest about how much is usable.

Rear wheel Dyno.. I know theres loss in the gearing.. I was just pointing this out to Supertwin... Yeah, you're right.. it probably does have 110 @ the crank.. it's just disapointing when you get less than factory #s.. lol..

The larger front end really is not that bad....after touring for many years on BMWs I can see the up''s in a larger front fairing. People use to think my R1100RS was odd and some said it was ugly too...gut when it came down to riding...they often said wow!!...not bad...comfortable...ride for much longer...and not bad for a heavy bike.
I remember a while back a couple of guys on 600's came riding with us (In San Diego when I was stationed there) and one of the guys said to me "what are you going to do with that beast" in a smug way. One of my friends told him..."don't be surprised when he passes you in a corner and leaves you in the dust". After our little ride through the twisties....my buddie (R1) and I (BMW R1100RS) were waiting on the other 4 riders at the end point. The guy on the GSXR600...."Wow...he's good...didn't think that heavy beast could do that?"
I just laughed!
The Buell may be different...but it may be awesome too!

i like that R1100S. that's a nice bike. i like the buell a lot too. very cool and i'm sure the performance will be up there.
anyone see that new KTM RC8 v twin? the nose is a little strange but the rest of it looks great and it has 155hp.

The Buell may be my next bike. The looks are slowly growing on me plus I'm sure it's nicer in person. I'm really glad Buell was able to keep the belt drive. It's been said in the past that belts couldn't handle the power of performance twin but technology moves onward. You get the benefits of a shaft (no mess or upkeep) and a chain (power transfer/suspension action).
Or maybe Honda will bring out something REALLY cool.......

I like the rc8. It is basically a badder ars superduke ( I imagine the clutch pull is still something reserved for Mr. Universe). It looks like the bike is cut for the track, right from the mold. Look where they mount the mirrors! Awesome, in my book, I love he orange as well.

Personally, I think the Buell is gorgeous, and for some strange reason, the RC8 isn't looking to horrid either...I dunno, it's just one of things you can't put a finger on, you just do. Guess I've got a couple SH replacement possibilities, so long as they stick around for a number of years
That orange makes me think I'm going duck hunting though.

Yeah, same here. I have a K&N and some slip-on scorpians and got 100.87. I was a little confused, but just gives me more reason to mod the hell out of it.

I LOVE the bike but hate the backwards hard bags on the front oh wait that's the air scoops for the rads....that's right. But to be fair I read an article about a test where the writer crashed (lowside) and it only cost $75 to repair it.

Advertised horsepower figures aren't necessarily enhanced per se. They are the manufacturer's calculation of hp at the crankshaft.
The mass of, and frictional loss from everything which has to move between the crank and the rear tire contact patch results in a measurable loss of power.
I'd guess the new Buell will make at least 130, maybe a bit more at the rear wheel.

I know a guy who bought one here in texas and he took it to d&d to have a custom exhaust done. It only pulled about 121 at the wheel WITH the new exhaust.
I went and test rode on b4 buying my SH. It was a love hate thing for me.

I just sat on one at the dealership two days ago, and next thing I know they gave me the keys to one... I LOVE my superhawk, but the 1125 is fricken' awesome!!!!!!!!! If yall want to test ride, Brandon Harley on rte. 60 in Brandon, Florida is where they give test rides.

I've seen the Buell in person and the bike looks sweet. If I didn't have the cast on the leg I would have done a test ride.
On a side note there was a gentleman who just bought one and had it at the service dept since he discovered gas in the crank

As said previously. The HP/TQ numbers are not "enhanced"
However they are not wheel horsepower but crank horsepower. Which means they were run on an engine dyno under ideal conditions with ideal loading and with the manufactureres using ideal throttle control.
most likely on Motorcycle motors they are a modified setup to disconnect the tranny and spin only the crank.
Between the parasitic losses in the trans, the chain/belt (chains are worse) and and friction losses at the tire, you would be lucky to be getting 80-90% of your power to the wheel

I'm not too impressed with the looks as of now... but it does grow on you.
I am impressed with Buells decision to start using something other than a HD motor.
One of these days it would be great to have an American sportbike manufacturer running toe to toe with the Japanese market.
