yeah, very interesting indeed. I always liked the idea of having a frame. Just sounds integral, but if you don't need it why carry it around. Should cost less too huh, lol.

What are all the "custom" builders gonna customize if they can't chrome the frame?

While the engineers in Bologna obviously know a great deal more than I do, I am an overly big fan of using the engine as a stressed member to this degree (think of the problems Duc had with case durability on some of their past Superbikes which had the swingarm pivoting in the cases; must confess I wish Honda had extended the VTR`s frame down to the pivot area). I guess we`ll have to wait and see but it sure is interesting stuff...

makes sense to me, doesnt seem like it would be much different than bolting the swingarm to the engine.

n., pl., -tos, or -toes.
A usually poor section of a city inhabited primarily by people of the same race, religion, or social background, often because of discrimination.
An often walled quarter in a European city to which Jews were restricted beginning in the Middle Ages.
Something that resembles the restriction or isolation of a city ghetto: "trapped in ethnic or pink-collar managerial job ghettoes" (Diane Weathers).
[Italian, after Ghetto, island near Venice where Jews were made to live in the 16th century.]

So bimota now has a duc motor in a carbon fiber trellis frame (14 lbs lighter 30% more rigid) , and duc is going frame-less. Just imagine if they got together and put the bimota carbon fiber swing arm on the back of a frame-less bike. make the front stressed member the airbox and tank, out of carbon of course, and load bearing. 200 horses and 340 pound here we come!

What a waste of talent, time, money, and a Hayabusa. Of course that's just my humble opinion.

There is no reason that enough strength couldn't be engineered into the cases. It just hasn't been done yet.

Ducati already has a carbon-fiber swingarm on their GP bikes. Talk about mass centralization, the only things on the bike with any mass to speak of would be the motor and the rider... zoinks!
