Here is what we have done for the VTR. I haven't made these for a while, that's why all I could find is digital pictures. The cost is around $200 regardless of quantity (can be as little as one piece). Anyone who is interested should just drop me an email.

I wouldn't be so sure. It may be strong side to side but there are just thin rails going outward so there isn't going to be as much torsional strength. Being billet doesn't make it stronger, it just means it was machined from a single piece. Will they be strong enough? Probably. Will they buckle easier in a collision or a nasty head shake? Maybe. But I guess at that point more damage is done anyway.

Read it here folks. If he can get a hold of one, and test it in a way that we can both agree on, I will ship my bike to him. But, if he looses, he has to ship his to me.
Billet doesn't always mean strong, true. But that piece I would bet, like I said, is stronger than the cast piece the bike comes with stock.
It doesn't need a lot of material to be strong. It needs to be able to take the loads applied to it. Ever stood up on an aluminum soda can?
