Triple Tree advise - 98 R1 Forks to fit VTR

Hi all,

I have a friend that gave me some USD forks that he had on his 98 R1 Superbike. He blew the motor so was giving it away so I was able to get the whole front end.

I am looking at trying to fit the front to my VTR1000f so I am looking for some advise as to what to do or what I need. is there a VTR1000f Triple tree that I can buy with larger fork clamps? Or is it just a bearing swap needed?

Any help would be great.

Cheers,

There is no VTR Triple that will work. The Yamaha triples may work with with different bearings but there would be other issues as well. There is a great fork swap guide in the knowledge base.

Others have successfully transplanted the R1 front-end to the VTR (recall one member from Germany who did so). Do a search and perhaps try to contact him..The All ***** web site is also helpful for matching up bearings.....

Good luck

Or just do what I suggested in the other thread, and READ... It's not even hard... It should take you about 30 seconds...

2001 Yamaha YZF R1 Front End Swap for A Honda Superhawk VTR1000F | eBay

You can also see if this guy can provide you with any helpful info. Not sure if he did the swap himself or just parting the bike out. He's the guy that sells (or I should say lists-not sure if he actually sells much) everything at crazy prices. Looks like custom triples though. As was said all ***** is great for mixing/matching races & bearings for this type of thing so you can make stuff fit. Do some research though as there's more to it than just fitting up the forks, especially if you plan of keeping your fairings.

Thanks for the reply tweety, I HAVE however searched and searched this site for ANY info regarding my situation. There is some great advice for a range of Honda fork swaps but I couldn't find anything that shows an early R1 front end.
If you know of something of a thread can you please guide me to it?
