steering damper?

steering damper?
Have not had my hawk that long . Thinking of a steering damper , I know about scotts . Just a little pricey though! Any other ones worth using that are reasonably priced? So far I have not had any problems with tankslappers or headshake ( and dont want to !) just want one for piece of mind.

Have only used the Scotts and as advertised it has excellent crash survivability. Totaled the bike, not a scratch on the Scotts.
I rode with it for 10k miles on the street and a couple track days before the biff and it worked well.

A steering damper does help to prevent headshake, but it is more of a band-aid solution for our bikes (unless you have changed the steering geometry)....meaning, you'd be using it to mask a different handling issue.

I have not had any issues with headshake, bikes never been wrecked or anything, just dont want find out it does after setting the front wheel down after a high speed wheelie! hasnt happened yet . Seen it happen to others and its not pretty sight!

yeah i was about to say wheelieing needs it
after the f4i fork swap and quicker steering, im going to fab somehting up
also powering out of a turn in the top of second the front tire wants to pick up giving an un nerving sense while still leaning a bit with one tire on the ground and one in the air lol

I experienced a headshake last Fall when I hit a bump while leaned over in a corner. Needless to say I was not at all impressed. So, I picked up a used steering damper for $75 and feel much more secure now

Not to sound like a complete hooligan. But one of the reasons I bought a superhawk was for its great ability to wheelie so good. I ride with a lot of freinds with 1000cc Inline fours (GSXR, CBRs) pretty good riders too! I am proud to say that the SUPERHAWK & me were able to go further and longer ! Thats why I want the steering damper , just to be on the safe side ( if there is such a thing as safe 45-95mph wheelies) LOL!

I have found clutching second (about 45mph) on the hawk seems be the best way for me. not as jerky as first and I dont run out of gear so fast. Havent got the ballz yet to click to third while its up. Although I think its possible! I just dont want to carry that much speed on the rear wheel ! Maybe we should start a wheelie thread ! LOL

That sounds like the thing to do! (15/43) What brand sprockets and chain did you go with? Vortex/ RK probably?? That would definitely save some wear & tear on my clutch.. I will put on my mod to do list . Gotta get the high mount Jardine's first . That anemic sounding stock exhaust just doesnt do the bike justice. Then steering damper , then gearing. The list goes on.......

I was just stating that for the above member as using the clutch is so much less fun that power wheelies

I found a great deal on a Scotts steering damper but it's for RC51. Do you guys know if the mounting bracket of the SH differs significantly from the one for RC51? I can't tell from the pics that I found on the web.
