Replacement Front Rotor Bolts?

I have been looking all over for replacement bolts for my new rotors as the service manual says you should replace the bolts when remounting rotors.

All the bolts I can find with the same thead size have a smaller head than the stock ones. I bought some that are stainless steel and should be stronger than the old factory ones but like I said have a smaller shoulder (head) than stock. I tried reusing the old ones and sheared off the head of the bolt only using 15lbs of torque!!!? That is why I want better metal than stock.

My question is have any of you used bolts other than the factory rotor bolts?

Hi Moto,
I could be completely wrong, but I think they are designed as single use only. I’ve run across shear bolts (that’s their name) on the brakes for my truck. Probably a safety issue using old stretched bolts. I’d recommend getting the stockers. YMMV

Thanks for the input Greg. Think I might have to order some stockers from hondaparts-direct.com but these TI bolts from Knee draggers look intresting...

But at $90+ for the front rotor set it's a bit steep. I was hoping for something better than stock but not quite TI grade. Anyone know of "mid grade" bolts?

I've always reused my rotor bolts. The torque specification is only 14 ft-lbs. That is far from a torque-to-yield bolt. They are installed with threadlock, so upon installation I recommend the same.

Thanks Greg! The bike came from the coast, so the bolts are a bit rusted from the salt air. That being the case I would rather replace them. Still can't belive one extra pound of torque sheared the head off! But then again the rotors were warped a bit and so the bolt could have been compromised through some rapid cooling like I suspect the rotors were. It could have been a post ride hose down by the previous owner I think.

I ened up ordering a new set of stockers from honda parts direct. Anyhow it's good to know you've been fine with reusing them in case I need to reuse the new ones in the future.
