racetech upgrade - question about gold valves
the rebound valve specifically. this is the one racetech recommends and I'm told that + springs and I'm good. well I need to order soon. like real soon. So real quick. is it really necessary or what? Plus how much work is it going to require since my shop is doing this for me when they rebuild the front forks...

There's supposedly a way around the Gold Valve mod. It requires shaving down the taper on the rebound adjuster rod. I'll see if I can dig up the article.
This one may help with info:

This one talks about the grinding:

I don't know how comfortable I feel with grinding down part of the rod, but if you mess up then you can justify a brand new front end.

I have the GV Comp valves and Ohlins 1.05 kg/mm springs in my forks. I have modified my rebound rods as described in the links above, by grinding off the land on the needle. With these springs and the rebound mod I still have insufficient reb damping. I am running 10 wt oil but I will soon be revalving with 5wt, going to a stiffer stack on both comp and reb. I'll let you all know how it goes.

EngineNo9, you make it seem as though you're not interested in compression valves. This baffles me. I hope to do both the rebound and comp. valves at the same time, but if I can't I'm going with the comp. valves first. Maybe you or someone else could shed light on why one would be preferred over the other (for financial reasons, of course).
