Mono Shock Front Suspension VTR!

Check out this awesome front suspension setup on my friends hawk up in Michigan. The frame is completely handmade out of cromolly tubing and the front suspension is braced with a single Koni shock up front. Just goes to show you what you can do with some tools in a barn!

Looks pretty wild. He re-did the entire frame too

Your friend's name wouldn't happen to be James Parker, would it? Looks like some of his work.

Nope his name is Martin. You can see him in the second pic. Def. one of the smartest people I have ever met. The motor is completely stock for now but he is in the process of building a beast of a motor for this thing including these custom made camshafts he made. The focus of the project is the frame and suspension though. He was making the upper control arm when I was there and setting the rake and travel. I just stared at this thing forever trying to take it all in

Just a guess, but it look's like he's added a lot of unsprung weight.

There is always the Lazareth Dokujya for a monoshock VTR but I think it might be a RC51 not a 1000F http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...000%20%201.htm

That's a chicken motor. You can tell by the rotor/stator cover, the RC51 has some extra protrusions. It's hard to explain, once you see it you'll know what I mean.

That bike is sweet. I love to sit back and marvel at good work like that.

I've dreamed of building one with a CroMoly front swinger AKA Vyrus, Tryphonos or Tesi

Just a guess, but it look's like he's added a lot of unsprung weight.
Have you ever picked up a set of forks?
The ones off my NSR250 SP weighed 9.5KG with triple clamps, no axle, and the ones off a VTR are heavier than that...
Whereas a construction like that is (fairly thin wall) tube. Triangular bracing is VERY strong (Hence Ducati using it in their trellis chassis)
And only one shock to spring it with. My estimation (as an engineer) is that it saves quite a lot of weight...
And it looks REALLY cool...

Hmmmm... With a custom ChroMoly chassis, I could build it to use a shorter rear shock... Like the very good OEM units on the late R1 etc, including their linkages and architecture

His one uses an SP1 shock, and the bikes dry weight is quoted as 410lb's, or about 186kg...
