Front sprocket change

Anybody out there used an 18t on the front? Will this clear everything?
I'm curious why someone would do this?

Re: Front sprocket change

Why would you want to go up in teath on the front sprocket? if anything you'd want to dropp a tooth for better low down power (not that its needed in the slightest with the hawk)...?

Re: Front sprocket change

A stock Storm cannot pull redline with the stock 16 tooth front so gong to an 18 would not help top end at all (may actually hurt it). he only advantage would be in freeway cruising or such where it would lover the engine revolutions for any given speed.

In truth, I can't figure out why anyone would want to try it (then again, I had a hard time getting my head around that infamous 15/54 set-up that someone was trying to get rid of some time ago. Great for a hillclimber maybe, lol)

Re: Front sprocket change

I dont know why anyone would want to do this mod.

The best application for this would be the slab, it would drop your rpm's but it would also make your passing time and acceleration suffer. It would affect your gas mileage too.

You would be slower getting up to speed, because the bike has to move a larger object. That means you would be slower in town and taking off.

I dont see a need to increase this sprocket size, if anything drop a tooth on the front and go up 2 on the rear.

This makes a big difference on acceleration and the bikes tendency to wheelie.

I personaly know that my shawk wont pull to redline in 6th. Drag limited to 135mph (130 with backpack). 530am ride to work confirms this multiple times. Not seeing a top end advantage there.

Just my thoughts

Re: Front sprocket change

i dont understand either why anyone would want to go up in the front... but someone asked why would you need to go down in the front, cuz the hawk already has enough power.... i think not! although, i am turning my bike into a stunt bike, about to put a cage on it, chop the subframe, put a 12 bar on it...and just so everybody know, sprocket specialists makes something ridiculous, (which i will probably use, cuz all i am gonna be doing is walking speed circle wheelies and what not)...i think you can go down to a 13 in the front and up to a 72 tooth in the rear... talk about losing top end!
