Custom Moto GP Pipes

Made some new pipes today thanks to my friends at the local shop. I cut stock mufflers off, dropped a baffle from a set of Lasers in, and the shop cut some end caps. The baffle is like the far one pictured but bigger, the closest baffle pictured was too loud. I ended up drilling a few holes in the baffle once installed to improve the sound and hopefully decrease the back pressure a little. The test ride before said drilling felt good, but I think some power was restricted hence the holes. They sound great now, before the holes the sound wasn't too loud but sounded kinda funny and hard to describe. I may paint them later and possible just the tips from the weld back but that'll be another day. Enjoy!

Oh yeah, the shop only charged me $25. Excuse the dirt too.

Deeper now, but not throaty like cans. Before the holes it had an annoying medium pitched sound like a small loud four stroke.

I'll take one in the daylight, maybe after a bath.

Unique look, but I'll bet it's almost as loud as an uncorked Chevy Small Block.
My 62 year old ears could not handle that.

I'm with ya there! I'm also unsure of what this does for the power curve and carb mix. I do know that these are very critical for the Superhawk.

You can do a lot with local shops when you're doing these kinds of mods. I had a local shop bend and weld a mid-pipe for the VFR so I could put a hi-mount D&D where I wanted it. They charged me $70 bucks and bought them a case of beer.

My little sewing machine now sounds like a Nascar racer. Just not as loud.

OOps I'm sorry! The second picture makes it looks like that the VFR has dual exhaust. It doesn't - the Superhawk is parked closely beside the VFR and the exhaust tip shown in the backround is the right side Jardine on the Superhawk.

I did a 250 mile test ride yesterday in the mountains and the noise is about the same as a pair of TBR cans but not as deep. Nobody behind me complained, I can hear the bike but it all but fades away at speed while cruising. Power feels good, maybe slightly less on top so I may add a couple more holes.

Here's another pic of the whole bike in its natural habitat.

The pipes really aren't that loud. Quiter than TBR's, maybe a tad louder than Jardines. I'm still wondering about the power, I think it gained a lot down low which is great on the street, but definitely thinking it lost some top end. Guess I'll drill a couple more holes.
