Re: Clip-ons or risers?

I tried the Gen-Mar risers. I was really unhappy. They made a difference, just not MUCH of a difference for me. I then went to the Heli-Bars. Man, I should have done that first. They make a BIG difference. Been happy with them for nearly 2 years now.

Re: Clip-ons or risers?

Not sure what you are refering to. Here in the USA, the bars/clip-ons stayed the same. Only the instrument cluster changed. (So I thought, I could be wrong)

Maybe we should ask everyone what year they've got their Heli-bars on.
Mine is a 98.

Re: Clip-ons or risers?

from what i understand only the european models recieved revisions.
in the us and canada the only change besides color was in 2001 when they changed the instrument cluster.

my heli bar equipped hawk is a 2001

Re: Clip-ons or risers?

You do not want clip-ons, as they will mount a little more forward and a little bit lower.

I'll post up photos this weekend, but if you go to the Heli-Bars website, it states the measurements over stock. You can also get pricing.

Re: Clip-ons or risers?

Heli-bars get my vote as well...With Heli-bars and a Sargent seat, the VTR is nice, nice, nice for longer rides--gas milage and range excepted, of course.

I believe the only modification listed on Heli's website is to bend the brake light micro switch forward.

I did not have to do any modifications to get the helibars to fit.
They do rub at full steering lock though (the fairing upper). The left side rubs on the "high/low" headlight switch, and the left side rubs just to the inside of the "run/off" switch.

If I adjusted them so that the switches do not rub, there is insufficent room to put your fingers/hand between the bar and tank. It's a minor annoyance, but one worth mentioning. I keep thinking I should just "bend" my upper fairing stay/side mirror mount up about .25". That would solve the clearance issues.

Re: Clip-ons or risers?

Well from my experience I was disappointed with the quality of the Helibars, they look cheaply made. I bought a pair used for like $170 or so, I was glad I discovered one was bent, and promptly returned them.

I was a lucky to buy a pair of mint VFR 98-01 bars for $25, these fit perfectly, and give a great riding position on my Hawk. I highly recommend them, so much so that I bought another pair for $5200 see attached image. Got a free bike with them too

I haven't noticed any adverse handling with my Heli Bars. I've been on the track once and out-and-about in the canyons at least five times since. The best part is riding home and not feeling any wrist pains.
