Buying a rear shock...

I know Ohlins, the rear shock is a 46PRCS. Now, could I just see what other bikes use that same shock, and just order it, or is there actually a difference from 46PRCS for one bike and the 46PRCS for ours?

Look at some other options besides Ohlins...

Anybody?

Length, stroke, spring rate etc.... I searched for years trying to get a reasonably priced shock for the Superhawk and it's a chore believe me. There are some alternatives to Ohlins such as Penske,(not much cheaper but a little), Fox, (if you can find one and they're discontinued so usually used but rebuildible), Nitro, (out of th U.K. don't know much about them) Elka,(couldn't get a straight answer on price or availability) and I just picked up a Bitubo shock on ebay from Italy we'll see how it does.

Don't forget WP from KTM & also HyperPro. HyperPro make a nice emulsion shock for about $500 that can be upgraded to a remote resevoir for $250 later if you don't have the dosh for the one that comes with a remote resevoir.

Re: Buying a rear shock...

If $$$$ are an issue, you want to consider having your OEM shock fitted with a RaceTech valving kit or having it re-valved by a reputable shop (for your needs).

I am presently running a RaceTeched OEM shock (purchased on eBay) and am quite happy with its performance although I use it strictly for the street. I spoke to a local suspension tech who said that the OEM shock can be made to work extremely well (especially with a Race Tech kit). Of course, you won't get adjustable comp. damping however (or a reservoir) with this set-up.

cheers

I have a HyperPro HO10-103S on my bike & it is the best money I have spent on it to date. They matched a spring to my weight for no extra $$$$

Heres the links to the 2 different types they have:

Hey Mono, I looked at those too but for some reason I couldn't find a price. What did it end up costing, if you don't mind me asking?

Well I got mine through a dealer in Australia ( http://www.serco.com.au/ ) & they charged me $1275.00 AUD for the full spec job & they also quoted me $750.00AUD for the lighter spec one.
This equates to $940.00US & $550.00US. You may get them cheaper than this because they have less distance to travel or you can try Hyperpro direct!

Re: Buying a rear shock...

I put a Penske on mine , works good. Comes with ride height, low speed compression damping, rebound and preload adjustment. I specified my riding habits and weight to Penske through Lindemann and they got it right. Lots of room for adjustment if I need it too. My 2 cents.
